Buddy Walk to raise funds and awareness
Buddy Walk to raise funds and awareness
07/18/2006
The Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada will sponsor its 2006 Buddy Walk from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Summerlin Centre Community Park, 1800 Town Center Drive.
The event is designed to help raise awareness about the chromosomal disorder and raise funds for research, education, advocacy, and ongoing programs and services to local families affected by Down syndrome.
Participants are asked to seek sponsors to pledge donations.
Individual walkers as well as family and friend teams, organization teams and corporate teams are eligible to participate in the Buddy Walk.
All contributions are tax-deductible, and any checks should be made payable to the Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada.
The Buddy Walk, which was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995, encourages people with Down syndrome to invite "buddies" -- friends, family, teachers, neighbors and businesses -- to join them on the annual walk, promoting the importance of understanding, acceptance and awareness.
There are a variety of ways to register for the event. Call 648-1990 for a registration form. Forms also are available online at http://www.dsosn.org or participants can sign up at www.firstgiving.com.
The Down Syndrome organization of Southern Nevada has offices at 5300 Vegas Valley Drive.
