FIBROMYALGIA: John Heath, a representative from Social Security, will talk about issues for those disabled by chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia for the Charlotte Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyalgia support group. ADOLESCENCE: Treating mental illness in adolescents will be among the topics from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a symposium on "Navigating Adolescence" at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center, Greensboro. Speakers will include Michael Gurian, author of "The Minds of Boys." Sponsors are the N.C. Medical Society Alliance and the N.C. Medical Society Physician Assistant Section. Other health fairs will be Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Gethsemane AME Zion Church, 531 Campus St.; and Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church, 1901 Rozzelles Ferry Road. REACH -- Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health -- is a federal initiative launched by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to eliminate health disparities among persons of color. AUTISM: Dr. Jeffrey Bradstreet, a Florida physician and leader in the Defeat Autism Now! movement, will give a free lecture on recent developments in autism research from 10 a.m. to noon at the Charlotte Coliseum Crown Club room. Bill Schindler of the Hyperbaric Therapy Center in Cumming, Ga., will lecture on the uses of hyperbaric therapy with children on the autism spectrum and give a demonstration from 9 to 10 a.m. The coliseum's Crown Club can be reached through the Advanced Ticket Office entrance. IMMUNIZATIONS: Dr. Jeff Zitel will lead a free workshop, "Vaccination: What They're Not Telling You and What They Don't Want You to Know," Oct. 19 at 6:15 p.m. at Zitel Family Chiropractic, 3419 Toringdon Way, off I-485 at the Johnston Road exit. N.C. law allows parents to file for a religious exemption to vaccinations, according to Lisa Jillani, director of People Advocating Vaccine Education, a Charlotte-based parents advocacy group.
