The Buddy Walk, a multi-city advocacy walk in which people with Down syndrome invite "buddies" to walk with them, is Saturday. The event includes a one-mile walk through the grounds of the Vanderburgh 4-H Center, followed by food and entertainment.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. Free food and entertainment will begin at 10:45 a.m. and the day's events will end at 1 p.m.

Locally, officials of the walk hope to raise $40,000 to help support the goals of the parent-to-parent support group, S.M.I.L.E. on Down Syndrome. A portion will also be given to the National Down Syndrome Society for research and education. Asera Hospice needs volunteers to become a part of the agency's Hospice Team and to work with patients and their families. The agency will provide training.

For more information, call 858-1032 or (800) 404-0289.

The United Way of Pike County had its first Day of Caring on Sept. 22. The agency had 87 volunteers serving 16 agencies. The agency's goal for its annual campaign is $105,000.

The Visiting Nurse Association needs volunteers for its hospice program at the offices in Evansville, Tell City and Princeton, Ind., and Eldorado, Ill. For more information, call (800) 326-4862.
