Downs But Not Out (Belton, Texas)

We encourage all of our families to invite the people who are part of their family member with Down syndrome's everyday life to come out and walk with their "buddy." It is amazing how the numbers will grow with that type of invitation. When the numbers grow, the interest grows, and, therefore, the advocacy does, too. Every year we see the same people return, but they bring new faces with them!

Our main tip for other Walk organizers is to keep talking it up and never stop. Keep trying—right up to the walk date—to get the word out. We are all so busy that we often have to juggle our calenders, and some things can easily be overlooked...Do all you can to reach the people who came in the past and the ones you think will attend now.
