Lackawanna County Parents of Down Syndrome (PODS)

Lackawanna County Parents of Down Syndrome (PODS) held Buddy Walks in 2002 and 2003. In 2001, Sara Wolff a senior at North Pocono High School held the very first Buddy Walk in Lackawanna County. Sara’s walk was her senior project. Sara also has Down Syndrome. She did a great job and Lackawanna County PODS wanted to continue the Buddy Walk tradition.

In 2003, we had approximately 400 walkers and raised $2000 for NDSS. Donations were accepted at the walk. (There was no registration fee.) We also had pledge sheets for walkers which were very helpful. We had sponsorships for the T-shirts and they were listed on the back of the Buddy Walk T-shirt. A local high school also had a basketball game with faculty as a fundraiser. They called it “Buddy Buckets.”
